VCE

What doe it look like?

Year 11: Core English

plus 5 other VCE subjects

Year 12: Core English study

Plus 4 other subjects

*VET or School based Traineeships can be included but please see below.

What do you need to obtain for a VCE certificate at the end of year 12?

Students will need to achieve the following:

16 semester units across year 11 (units 1 or 2) and year 12 (units 3 and 4), which must include 3 units of English study and three subjects studied in year 12 across units 3 and 4.

These semester units can include any units which are achieved through the completion of a VET course, a School based Traineeship or certificates II or III  completed through a part time job.

How do students receive an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank)?

Students need to achieve their VCE certificate. In addition, they need to have units 3 and 4 of English and there must be at least three other subjects studied across units 3 and 4. These four subjects must each have a score attached achieved through School Assessments and Exams. If students have more than 4 scored subjects, the first four counted will be the highest scores achieved and then 10% of the the 5th and 6th subject scores will be added in.

Some VET certificates are scored as they have exams. These can be counted in the first four subjects if the score is high enough. If they are scored and students do not complete the exam, they cannot be counted in the ATAR calculation.

Other VET certificates, School based Traineeships or certificates II or III  completed through a part time job will count if the students do not have more than 4 scored subjects. The mark given to them is the average of the first four scored subjects.
