Year 9 - Maths Works

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Real world Maths will run for 3 periods per week for one semester. This unit will give students who have an interest in Maths, and who are keen to be challenged, an opportunity to develop their skills and to enjoy solving real life problems in their own environment.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

Include design and construction. Mathematics will be used to solve problems and answer interesting questions. e.g. How many beats does your heart do in a lifetime? What measurements do I need to construct a chair?

MAIN ASSESSMENT TASKS

We will solve problems like these using old and new mathematics skills in a STEM based approach.

There is no textbook to purchase.

Workbook and a Scientific Calculator
