Year 7 - Year 7 Science

In Semester 1 the initial focus is “magic”. The curriculum will include safe scientific practice, working scientifically and how to use laboratory equipment. The students will create and perform their own Magic Science demonstration. During term 2 a focus on water includes the particle model, changes of state and separation techniques.

 

In Semester 2 the students focus on Ecology, followed by the Physical Sciences (Energy and Forces), working towards a Science Expo on the theme of ‘How does it work?’

 

Throughout the year the students will carry out many ‘hands-on’ activities and work on a number of collaborative tasks.

 

MAIN ASSESSMENT TASKS

Semester 1:

  • Magic Trick Demonstration
  • States of Matter Test

 

Semester 2:

  • Ecology Assessment Task

“How does it work?” presentation

 

RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT

No textbooks are required, however an iPad or laptop, 2 workbooks and fully equipped pencil case are essential. A calculator will also be necessary.
