Year 7 - Year 7 Science

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In Semester one the initial focus is ‘Magic’, incorporating whole number skills (whole number and integers) and Scientific Practice, as well as how to safely use scientific equipment. The girls will create and perform their own Magic Science demonstration.

In Term 2 the focus is on Water. In Mathematics the students investigate their own water usage, incorporating the use of graphs, statistics, volume and capacity. In Science they explore the properties of water and the water cycle.

In Semester two the students focus on Ecology, followed by the Physical Sciences (Energy and Forces), working towards a Science Expo on the theme of ‘How does it work?’ In Mathematics they will work through Decimal/Fraction/Percentage skills, followed by some early Algebra. The year will conclude with Measurement and Geometry, including the properties of polygons and an understanding of 3 Dimensional Shape

“How does it work?”

 

Throughout the year the students will carry out many ‘hands-on’ activities and work on collaborative tasks in groups.

Semester 1:

  1. Magic Trick Demonstration
  2. States of Matter Test

 

Semester 2:

  1. Ecology Assessment Task
  2. “How does it work?” presentation

 

RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT

No textbooks are required, however an iPad, 2 workbooks and fully equipped pencil case are essential. A calculator will also be necessary.
