20th Century History

I chose to write my script through the voice of a Jewish twin during a specific era of the Holocaust. It touches on experiences with Auschwitz officer and physician, Josef Mengele, also known as the ‘Angel of Death’, who performed experiments and was particularly interested in identical twins. The reason for choosing a female who came from a cultured Jewish family was to show the extreme downfall that she would have experienced were she not fictional. My method of filmmaking was aimed to make the viewer feel unsettled. I filmed a young girl’s face and then silhouetted her across the main character’s ‘memories’. The images that were intended to represent the main character’s memories matched the timeline expressed in the script. My main character was showed in strange colours to make her seem more unreal, show her ghostliness and inability to speak, and show how damaged she became as a result of her time with Mengele.
